10 Street Food Places in Gorakhpur You Cannot Miss

A local's honest, decade-long love letter to the rolls, chaat, bhel, dosa, momos and vada pav that make Gorakhpur worth eating street by street.

Arsaaln Roll

I genuinely think this is one of the best and probably one of the oldest rolls in Gorakhpur. I have personally been eating here for almost 10 years now, and their paratha is honestly so unique. It has this homemade feel that you just do not get at most roll places. Once I asked the owner where he was from and he said West Bengal, and suddenly everything made sense. The roll just has that proper Bengali street food touch.

bengali touch, gkp soul

I still remember going there with my friends around 8 years ago, when we used to get a chicken roll for ₹30 to ₹40. And the crazy part? It still tastes almost exactly the same. That consistency deserves respect. Another thing I really like is that during Sawan, he only sells a veg roll, and surprisingly, it tastes really good too.

If you are in Gorakhpur and love rolls, this place is definitely worth trying. Some food places change with time, this one somehow just stays the same.

Sharma Chaat

I honestly do not even know if Sharma Chaat needs a review because almost everyone in Gorakhpur already knows about it. They make some of the best quality chaat in the city. I know some people do not like the sweet dahi because they feel it makes the chaat too sugary, but personally, I LOVE it. One important tip though: if you are planning to go after 7 PM, just keep your expectations realistic, because a lot of things are usually sold out by then.

Big things are made from small things, and the Sharma brothers genuinely follow that.

Free parking, extra masala while packing dahi bada, proper hygiene while serving golgappa, cold water with a glass and so many other tiny things that most places completely ignore. And that is what makes a place memorable.

If you go there, do not just order one thing. Try everything, because they somehow manage to make almost everything really well.

Bhel Puri at Vijay Chowk

Vijay Chowk

You know exactly who I am talking about. This place does not even need a name. Earlier, their cart used to be opposite the samosa guy, but they have shifted now. But honestly, this review is not even about how good their bhel puri is. I want to talk about how hard working the owner's daughter is.

I have been seeing her work there for the last 6 to 7 years. She comes around 3 or 4 PM and keeps working till around 11 at night. And she does it consistently, every single day. I genuinely think she deserves some recognition for that.

ask for one free papdi

And yes, if you go there, try both the bhel puri and batata puri. Once you are done, ask them for one free papdi with chutney. Trust me, that little extra papdi hits different.

Khauji Dosa

Betiahata / Golghar

Around 7 years ago, I was roaming around Betiahata looking for an ATM when I randomly noticed Khauji Dosa. At that time, it was still something pretty new in Gorakhpur, so obviously, being a foodie, I went inside to try it. I ordered a dosa, but she recommended an uttapam instead. And honestly, I did not like it much at that time.

Fast forward to last year, I think they opened their new branch in Golghar. And obviously, I had to go back and give them another chance. This time I tried their dosa and BRO, it was actually so good. The third dry chutney they serve is especially unique and genuinely tasty. I do not think I have had anything quite like it around Gorakhpur. Their packaging is also pretty nice and different, which I appreciate.

Also, my mom absolutely loves their medu vada, so that is another recommendation from the house. Winter is coming, so this is your sign to go eat some hot dosa. And yes, personally, I would pick this over Vihal any day.

UP53 Maggi and Appe Point

City Mall

One day I went to my newly married bhaiya's house and my bhabhi offered me appe with coconut chutney. I tried them and instantly loved them. After that, I started looking for a proper appe place in Gorakhpur because it was something pretty new for my taste buds. Then one day, while passing by City Mall, I randomly spotted this place called UP53 Maggi and Appe Point. I was genuinely so happy.

I immediately stopped and ordered a plate. It was only ₹35 and came with coconut chutney. And BRO, the appe were actually so good. They are big, loaded with vegetables and properly seasoned. But the real star for me was the coconut chutney. Easily one of the better coconut chutneys I have had in Gorakhpur. The woman making them clearly knows what she is doing. The masala, texture and everything just works.

If you go there, do not just try the appe. Try their other stuff too.

Street 69

This one is specifically for all the noodle lovers. I mostly go here for their noodles because the combination of quality and taste is honestly amazing. The only problem? It gets REALLY crowded. So if you are going, keep some time in hand and do not expect instant food.

Worth the crowd, every single time.

I have taken so many of my friends here just to make them try the noodles, and literally every single one of them has liked it. That is probably the biggest compliment I can give a place. If noodles are your comfort food, put this one on your list.

Sai Momo

Indra Bal Vihar

I think Sai Momo might be one of the only proper non veg street food spots around Indra Bal Vihar. I know a lot of people love their egg rolls, and I liked them too, but their chicken momos are what really stood out to me. Honestly, right now, I would put these among the better chicken momos in Gorakhpur's street food scene.

The interesting part is their chicken filling. It almost has this kebab like texture and flavour. If you have ever had Tunday Kababi in Lucknow, you might understand what I mean. There is a similar kind of flavour profile going on. And their orange chutney is really good too. I think they use the same chutney with almost everything, but honestly, if it works, why change it?

Definitely try the chicken momos if you are there.

Manoj Samosa

This place is actually pretty far from my house and completely in the opposite direction, so this is probably the only place on this list that I did not discover myself. I once posted on the Gorakhpur subreddit asking for the best samosa places in the city, and I was honestly shocked when around five people independently suggested Manoj Samosa. So obviously, I had to go.

I tried it that evening and hated it. Like genuinely. I thought it tasted like shit. I left annoyed and completely wrote the place off. But the next day, I happened to be in the same area for some work. I saw the shop again and suddenly remembered the samosa. For some reason, I wanted to try it one more time.

So I went in, ordered a samosa and the shopkeeper gave it to me without hari chutney. I asked him for some and he said, "Bhaiya, khatam ho gaya." So I had no option but to eat the samosa without chutney. And OH MY GOD. It was actually so good. That is when I realised something very important.

The samosa was not the problem. I just did not like their chutney.

So yeah, Manoj Samosa definitely deserves a second chance. Try the samosa without chutney and then tell me what you think.

Quality Jalpan Grih

I think Quality Jalpan Grih was one of the first places in Gorakhpur to bring proper Delhi style chole bhature. And when I say this place is old, I mean REALLY old. This is one of those places that has been around for so long that it feels like a part of the city's food history.

Their chole bhature are definitely worth trying, but please do not leave without trying their kheer. Seriously. Their kheer is genuinely really tasty and honestly deserves more attention. Is it a little overpriced? Maybe. But if something tastes good, sometimes you just stop calculating.

Do not leave without the kheer. Seriously.

I am still not completely sure if they fry their bhatura in ghee or not, but whatever they are doing, it works. And if they ever read this, please add a little more paneer in the bhatura. That would make it even better.

Vada Pav

Last one on my list and currently one of my absolute favourites. Whenever I feel hungry and want something quick, I just go to this vada pav stall, order an Amul butter cheese vada pav with extra chilli and a Diet Coke.

Amul butter cheese vada pav, extra chilli, one Diet Coke. Perfect combo. No debate.

And honestly, the guy making the vada pav has something special in his hands. I just LOVE the taste. He puts this red masala inside the vada pav and that one little thing takes the whole thing to another level. You can tell he actually cares about the quality of what he is serving, and I really appreciate that.

the pav makes the difference

Also, he uses one of the better pavs I have had with a vada pav. And trust me, the pav makes a bigger difference than people realise. It is simple street food, but when someone gets the small details right, it becomes addictive. Definitely give this one a try.
